Holotropic Breathwork® Vienna
With Holotropic Breathwork®, Breathwork Vienna offers an intensive and unique method to experience expanded states of consciousness and their healing potential in a safe setting.
Since time immemorial, humans have used expanded states of consciousness to find answers to life’s existential and meaningful questions.
Holotropic Breathwork® is an effective method of self-exploration and therapy. It uses a combination of seemingly simple means – accelerated breathing, stimulating music and possibly body work, which helps to dissolve the remaining bioenergetic and emotional blockages.

Holotropic Breathwork® may be interesting for you if you:
- Are you looking for an experiential and experience-oriented approach that goes beyond talk therapy.
- Are experiencing a major life crisis and are looking for deep wisdom and insights.
- Want to understand the emotional roots of a persistent physical or psychosomatic condition.
- Would like to experience expanded states of consciousness in a safe, accompanied setting.
The sessions are held as group sessions. The participants work in pairs and take turns in the role of breather and companion (sitter). The process is monitored by trained facilitators who are available to assist participants whenever they wish or a special intervention is necessary.
Following the breathing sessions, participants express their experiences in an initial process of integration through painting mandalas or writing. The opportunity to talk about your inner journey in small groups as well as various creative expression methods are used to complete the breathwork experience.
A basic concept of Holotropic Breathing® is the model of the inner healer or the inner wisdom inherent in every person. This means that breathing establishes contact with our innermost core and uses the natural ability for self-healing and regeneration of the body and the mind.
The word “holotrope” is derived from Greek and means “moving toward wholeness.” Psychiatrist Dr. Stanislav Grof developed the method in 1970 with his wife Christina. It is based on decades of clinical therapy experience with expanded states of consciousness, on intensive research into modern psychology and consciousness, and on the study of ancient spiritual wisdom teachings.
